Our massage this morning is entitled:
Finding Inner peace in turbulent time.
Two months ago as I travelled to South Africa. It was one of those bad flights I have had -the turbulents, they were so terrible that one would feel the plane almost flipping over. Believe you me throughout the ordeal I kept on singing in my heart, 'Nearer My God to Thee.'
Brethren We all pass through turbulent times. Turbulent times are the rough times in our lives. Someone said that going through life is like roller-skating. At one time you feel like you are on top of the world and another time like you are at the bottom of the valley.
But I want us to reflect or talk about what happens when you are at the bottom of the valley and are going through a turbulent in your life.
The first question you need to ask yourself is how did you get there? Because sometimes the kind of choices we make in life can make us go through turbulent.
Life is about making choices. We make choices each and everyday of our lives. Now there are consequences to the kind of choices we make. Sometimes our choices will bring good results sometimes bad results. But we need to realize that even when we make bad choices which may consequently lead to a turbulent times, Christ is always with us. It is never his will that you should suffer, his will is that you may have life and life in abundance.
Secondly, the Bible says that the Devil prowls around our lives like a roaring Lion. Indeed, sometimes the turbulents we face in our lives come as temptations to us, as was in the case of Job; who lost, his children, property and inflicted by disease.
But how do we find peace in turbulent times?
We find peace by Trusting in God
We find peace by Having Faith in God
We find peace by Having Hope
When we go through turbulents, often times we would expect help or some sort of encouragement from those close to us: friends and relatives, but brethren it not always that people will help us as we expect. But be of good cheer because there is someone who sticks closer than a brother or sister, and his name Christ. When you walk through fire he is there to make sure that you are not burnt, when you are faced by a mountain he will level it to the ground. Christ is our refuge and fortress, our ever present help in times of need, He is Lord of the mountains, the wind, the storm and turbulent. He is our shield and buckler, his rod and stuff they comfort us so that even though we pass through turbulent moments we will fear not, because Christ is our light and armrest in the tunnel.
May Christ through his Spirit help us find peace in turbulent times. Amen
